Like every hotel in its class, it promoted its meeting and convention spaces in a last ditch effort to stay relevant through the 1990s. Most of this hotel's competitors didn't last past the 1990s, so it's sort of amazing this one managed to survive as long as it did. Although, with its competitors gone, you'd think there would only be so many places to accommodate the demand. Still, the demand just continued to wane as the years passed. However, you can find video of groups using this space on YouTube as late as 2009 and seeming to have a jolly good time (despite the mold, pests, and lack of heat & hot water, presumably).
