Detex crash bar emergency exit unit
In order to prevent employees from opening the stores back doors and stealing merchandise, the back doors at just about every store featured an alarmed crash bar, which provided egress during an emergency, but sounded a loud audible alarm unless being disabled by key first. Managers would disable the alarm multiple times throughout the day, such as to receive merchandise from the back corridors, or to take out trash.
