Your tax dollars at work
The sign on this overhead mast reads, "Signals set for 20 mph", which on the surface, would seem to be a helpful tip. But there are a few things that are extremely strange about this that are worth mentioning. First of all, I'll give them a pass on using white text on green background, since although this isn't a guide sign in the sense that it gives you a directional aid, but it does "guide" you with a helpful driving tip. But then, that begs the question as to why three yellow wig-wag flasher lights are required to help convey that message. Likewise, why the engineer would choose to use three bulbs instead of just two or all four. But now, for the key question: what the hell are they talking about? There isn't one single traffic signal down this road for at least 4 miles! Check the map yourself or stop by sometime. I believe it is still there, flashing away, on taxpayer money. Knowing how New York is run, DOT probably will spend thousands of dollars to upgrade the lights to LED flashers at some point.
