Whoops, I fell down an elevator shaft
Since I was unable to get from the ground floor to the first floor, I thought I would try climbing up the elevator shaft. Bad idea. I got on top of the car by going over the open top above the wall in the room that met the shaft. After climbing on top of the car it was rather easy to access the 2nd floor doors, except instead of having a mechanical release like many double- or single-sliding door elevators, the lock was magnetic. While trying to disengage the interlock I slipped off the small landing and fell onto the metal grate top of the elevator car below. I was by myself so if I'd actually been hurt I'd probably have been pretty screwed.
Interestingly my camera took an exposure at the moment of impact. On the right side of the frame you can see the cables and the tie-off to the car. On the left are utility conduits in the shaft. And to the top left is the landing to the next floor.
