Steam pipes of Stewart Hall
Stewart Hall was destroyed by arson. But this shot seemed to really capture to me the complexity of the engineering effort behind the old place. First, on the ceiling, asbestos wrapped pipes abound. Next, green painted valves blend in with the ceiling. But finally, the largest pipe had its valve knobs pulled and replaced with plastic caps. Strangely, the top flange burst along a shear line. This probably happened after the place was closed, perhaps by repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Also, there is a telephone patch panel at the left of the frame.
