Guano in the attic of Stewart Hall

Guano in the attic of Stewart Hall

Apparently birds had found their way into this area and were calling it home judging by the bird droppings everywhere. This experience reminded me of one of my first abandoned building experiences. When I was just 15 years old I got a summer job doing manual labor for my local school district. While restoring a disused building from partial mothball status to active status, I snuck away and lowered the attic folding stairs. The attic was pitch black - then suddenly as I stepped up, the massive congregation of bats living in there went nuts and I practically jumped down the entire flight of steps before quickly raising the stairs back up. However I did not see any bats this time.
