Scrap tires in the basement

My theory about how these tires got here is that they belonged to the owners of the house. Many people, including me, use two sets of wheels to make it easier to change between winter and all-season tires. When the house was abandoned, they left the tires behind. Then, someone passing through found the tires, and moved them to the stairs as though they were going to remove them, but then decided it wasn't worth it and left them in the stairs.
