Elevator Door Interlock (detail)
When the exterior door interlock arm is lifted upwards, a mechanical interlock (shaped like a trapezoid, directly above the rod) is lifted out of the way so the door can slide past it. As the mechanical interlock is disengaged, the mechanism with the rollers tilts, disengaging the electrical interlock contacts as well, allowing the exterior door to slide open (to the left in this picture).
