Accessing the Cab Roof
In movies, you always see actors pop out the ceiling hatch (black metal hatch at the back of the cab), and climb on top of the cab. However, the rescue hatch is required to be inaccessible from the inside of the cab for safety reasons. Here you can see the inspection control panel, near the candy-stripe danger tape. Note that there are two emergency stop switches. The cab was lowered using the access key switches in the cab and on the exterior door on the top floor so that a fire alarm technician could service the heat and smoke sensors at the top of the hoistway.
