Severely damaged hallway in the Jennie G
The bulk of the damage seen here was likely done by scrappers, who focused their efforts tearing down walls and ceilings in the hallways since that's where utility wiring and piping was concentrated. But when your building has no ceilings anymore, it makes it way easier for water to cascade down floor after floor. Note the extreme amount of plaster chips everywhere - keep in mind that since this building was built during the 1950s it very likely is heavy with asbestos. But also note the modest renovation efforts that took place at some point - the doors are adorned with a white wood trim that is clearly much newer than the other fixtures.
